Thanks to all of you who have supported the idea of the Pittsfield Vermont Community web site. For a variety of reasons the site is not being used. I think it would be best to take the site down rather than leave it on line with possible obsolete or incorrect information.
I have added a "community" page to the Pittsfield Library web site and welcome people to send information of community interest for inclusion there. The library web site is www.pittsfieldlibrary.com
I will wait a week or two before taking this site down and would like to hear any opinions on the subject. Thanks again for supporting this community effort.

Tom Chism has bought the General Store. The Pittsfield General Store will be hosting Free Brick Oven Pizza and cookies for all of 2009 on Sundays from 4:30 to 6:00 pm. A $2 donation is suggested with all proceeds going to The Pittsfield Library, The Pittsfield Fire Department and the Fast Squad. A good chance for all of our communities to "Mix it UP' like they teach at the Stockbridge Elementary School. Tom and his crew are offering a locals card that has great deals such as $1 for a coffee and muffin, $5 for a daily lunch special and $6.95 for all you can eat pasta dinners. Local celebrities such as the Pittsfield Pinecone might even be there to spread more wisdumb. Enjoy every moment and everyone, it is our community.

Rochester, VT – The town of Rochester will celebrate the Year of the Ox, 4707 in a library program designed to encourage community diversity, cultural understanding, and tolerance. The two hour event will be held on Saturday, 24 January 2009 at the Rochester Public Library on Main Street. The festivities will begin at 10 am and last till 12 noon. The actual date of the Lunar New Year falls on Monday, 26 January 2008. In the Chinese Zodiac, the Ox is the second of twelve animals believed to represent the Chinese astrological signs. The representative animal this year is the Ox or Water Buffalo endowing those born in this year as persons who will gain prosperity through fortitude and hard work. As the Ox is large and strong in stature, so those who are born in a year of the Ox, stable, persevering, tolerant, and worthy to be called persons of strong character. In support of this event, several Rochester businesses, Seasoned Books and The Rochester Café on Main Street, and Huntington House Inn on the Park, will be introducing Asian food fare in their menus! Notably, President Barack Obama was born in the year of the Ox as was another world leader, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Come find out who else was born an “Ox”! Activities planned for the event are storytelling, an opportunity to read books about Chinese culture, games, fortune telling, children’s crafts, and a discussion of traditional foods and family celebration.

Rochester Public Library News
The Whitney Reader’s Theater will be presenting Voices of Chernobyl, The Oral History of a Nuclear Disaster on Sunday, January 11th at 3:00 at the Park House.
This dramatic production adapted by Spencer Smith from Svetlana Alexievich’s award winning book by the same name, tells the story of 6 survivors of the 1986 nuclear catastrophe in Ukraine. The play is narrated by Patsy French and features a cast including Tara Race, Hugo Liepmann, Jeff Tolbert, John Jackson, Dawn Butterfield and Amy Borgman. Cynthia Jackson directs this joint production of the Randolph Area Peace Coalition and the Whitney Readers Theater.
This is a free event. Please plan to stay for refreshments and discussion after the show.
“Since the library is not accessible to some community members planning to attend this event, the Park House has graciously agreed to host. We appreciate being able to partner on this production,” commented Library Director, Jeannette Bair. The book Voices from Chernobyl from which the play was based is available at the Rochester Public Library.

Join us for a new Christmas ritual.
Tuesday December 23rd at 6pm come Pittsfield's Roger Clark Memorial Library.
We will read a few Christmas stories, enjoy coco and snacks and watch the movie Polar Express. Wear your PJs and bring pillows and blankets to sit on the floor for the movie.
The Polar Express: This magical holiday tale tells of a young boy who still wants to believe in Santa even though his friends have “grown out of it.” His faith is rewarded when a steam train pulls up to his house and escorts him to the North Pole to meet Santa. The cutting-edge “motion capture process” used to film this story allows the real life actors to drive the emotions and movements of the animated characters.

This is my first use of this site so I hope this is the appropriate forum to use for my question. Does NEMC just show up, possibly twice, for property inspection? It seems to be an inefficient method for scheduling an appointment. Another thought: in a declining real estate market, will the fair market value be depreciated on April 1, 2009 to reflect a loss of value, or, appreciation of value should that be the case?

As a Pittsfield town member and captain of the Pittsfield 1st Response, I would like to ask all of you who are friends and neighbors here in Pittsfield to take a moment and consider volunteering your time as a 1st responder. It is a service that is desperately needed. Currently there are only 3 active members of the Pittsfield 1st responder squad. To be an effective unit we need to increase this number dramatically. Our calls are few, but can be extremely important. Due to our geographic location we are at least 1/2 hour from ambulatory care. Please help me, Vern, and AJ keep this service in action, we cant do it alone.
Classes will be Mondays and Wednesday nights starting Oct 1st till Dec 8th.
Even if your cant join please sent this info along to anyone who might be interested. Thank you for your time. Feel free to email me with any questions 746-8017. Angela Jackson

Two-time Olympic skier and Vermonter Doug Lewis is coming to Pittsfield's Roger Clark Memorial Library to hold a fun physical fitness clinic for the whole family.
Since retiring from Ski Racing Doug and his wife, Kelley, have run ELITEAM conditioning camps in the summer for young athletes ages 8-16. He is bringing his high energy and exercises to share with the young and old athletes of the Pittsfield area. Not only will everyone have a great time, Doug will teach the group about physical fitness and training. In addition, he will share some of his stories of the Olympics with everyone.
The clinic and fun is open to all abilities and ages. You are encouraged to wear sneakers and either shorts or sweatpants. The group will start with some flexibility training, move on to some agility training, then the fun Obstacle course. Again, this is geared towards the kids, but all ages and abilities are welcome and invited to participate. September 11th at 6pm.
The library will be open, so come by early and find something to read.
