The actual date of the Lunar New Year falls on Monday, 26 January 2008.In the Chinese Zodiac, the Ox is the second of twelve animals believed to represent the Chinese astrological signs. The representative animal this year is the Ox or Water Buffalo endowing those born in this year as persons who will gain prosperity through fortitude and hard work. As the Ox is large and strong in stature, so those who are born in a year of the Ox, stable, persevering, tolerant, and worthy to be called persons of strong character. In support of this event, several Rochester businesses, Seasoned Books and The Rochester Café on Main Street, and Huntington House Inn on the Park, will be introducing Asian food fare in their menus! Notably, President Barack Obama was born in the year of the Ox as was another world leader, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Come find out who else was born an “Ox”! Activities planned for the event are storytelling, an opportunity to read books about Chinese culture, games, fortune telling, children’s crafts, and a discussion of traditional foods and family celebration.
